Positioning yourself as an industry expert will help you grow your business better than anything else I can think of. Borrowers want to work with the best LO in their local market, and branding yourself as an expert is the best way to stand out from all the competition and make yourself the clear choice to represent them. Here are some of the ways you can position yourself as a mortgage expert to gain more trust and bring in more business:

Stay Informed
This shouldn’t be at all surprising, but to position yourself as an expert, you actually need to be an expert. It doesn’t mean that you need 20+ years of experience, but it does mean that you need to stay informed and really know your stuff. It means staying engaged with your work, continuing to learn, and staying on top of changes within the industry.

Build Your Brand
Your brand can do much of the heave lifting for you when it comes to establishing yourself as an expert. Whether you focus on a specific demographic or you have relationships with recognizable referral partners, your brand is an effective way to communicate that. Lackluster branding won’t give your prospects a very clear picture of who you are and how you do business — and it certainly won’t make you seem like an expert in the industry. A strong, confident brand, however, will catch the eye of your prospects, and they’ll want to know more.

Create Content
When it comes to building your brand, nothing provides a better foundation than creating (and sharing) original content. Some borrowers are going to need some additional evidence that you can deliver on your promises and that you really are an expert; and sharing original content gives you the platform to prove it. Think about the topics that interest you, the areas where you’re most knowledgeable, and the common questions and concerns of your prospects and clients — then write about them. ?When a prospect sees your website, blog, or social-media pages, and it’s full of content that is relevant to them, then they’re going to know that you’re an expert in the industry and someone that they should talk to.

Personalize the Client Experience
Apart from your online presence, you need to carry your expertise with you in every interaction. Delivering a personalized client experience is the best way to do that. This means turning up for meetings prepared, aware of all of your clients’ options, asking more questions, and really listening to what they have to say. When your clients leave impressed with the high level of attention you paid them, they’re going to leave you more reviews and send you more referrals. Think about how you can make the borrowing process more convenient for your clients. If they’re convinced that you care as much as they do about their success, then they would never think of using someone else in the future, and they’re going to happily tell others about you.
