POSCO Group, under the leadership of Chairman Jeong-Woo Choi, is pursuing investments based on the "Seven Major Future Innovation Tasks" to rebuild its steel competitiveness and lead the global market in battery materials. The group is collaborating with India’s JSW Group to construct a 5 million-ton annual capacity integrated steel mill and is also expanding overseas steel upstream operations in high-growth, high-profit markets such as North America to secure unparalleled competitiveness.
In the battery materials sector, POSCO Group has completed a 25,000-ton-per-year lithium hydroxide plant in Argentina, utilizing lithium brine from its own salt lake. Domestically, it partnered with Australia's Pilbara Minerals to establish a second lithium plant in the Yulchon Industrial Complex in South Korea, creating a total annual production capacity of 43,000 tons. This integrated value chain, covering lithium, cathode materials, and battery recycling, reinforces its position as a leading global lithium supplier.
Furthermore, POSCO Group has completed a silicon anode material plant in the Yeongil Bay Industrial Complex in Pohang, securing a foothold in next-generation battery materials. Through domestic and international business expansion, the group aims to stabilize the critical mineral supply chain while responding to global policies such as the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act
