Portworx Certified Admin
It's been a while since I passed any exams, but there will be much more soon, now that my work requires much deeper understanding of container orchestration, storage provisioning, and security. As an official opening of a new certification season, I decided to earn Portworx Certified Admin certification. Portworx is container-native virtualized storage with built-in replication, migration, backups, DR, snapshots, RBAC, and encryption. It natively integrates with Kubernetes and other orchestrators, such as DCOS and PKS and can be used to provide application workloads with ReadWriteOnce volumes for databases and KV systems and ReadWriteMany (requires shared volumes) for CMS and other web-based services.
It has many intriguing features, of which I found the following most interesting:
- Backups and migration of persistent storage in the form of PVCs and application resources, such as Deployments and Services on Kubernetes.
- Integration with Kubernetes default scheduler via STORK in order to provide topology awareness for placement of pods based on location of volumes.
- Integration with Flux and other GitOps tools in order to facilitate approval-centric autoresizing of volumes and storage pools.
- Support for Prometheus, Sysdig, and Datadog as sources of metrics.
