Portuguese celebrations of the World Creativity and Innovation Week

The official World Creativity and Innovation Week?(15-21 April) is now behind us.?

Since its founding in 2001, the WCIWeek begins on April 15, Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday, and ends on the 21st. In 2017, the UN - United Nations, recognised April 21 as the official date to celebrate creativity and innovation worldwide, with resolution 71/284, which states that “[...] human creativity and innovation, at both the individual and group levels, have become the true wealth of nations in the twenty-first century, [...]". The 21st is part of the resolution 70/1 (9/25/2015) with the titleTransforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in which it adopted a comprehensive set of universal and transformative Sustainable Development Goals. In this way, WCIW emphasises the importance of a new way of thinking to create a decent life for all, on a sustainable planet.

As Portuguese Ambassador of WCIW, I am very happy to publish here the many celebrations which took place in Portugal:?

• 29 March: Bombarda Quarteir?o Criativo, Creativity and Collaboration in the Development of a Creative District
• 15 April: Mindshake Open House, Partnership for Creativity and Innovation
• 17 - 21 April: Innovation week at SOGRAPE with several internal activities
• 20 April: Summit Social Impact: from Porto to the World, Centro de Inova??o Social - CIS Porto
• 20 April: Roundtable organized by BCSD Portugal - Conselho Empresarial para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável , and dedicated to the national textile and clothing sector as part of the beat by be@t idea??o program, taking place at Tintex Textiles
• 21 April: Webinar “Public administration and innovation, unlikely friends?” Organized by LIPOR
• 21 April: First conference of a Talk Cycle about Creativity and Innovation in Design Research, at?ESART, Campus da Talagueira, Castelo Branco, and coordinated by Daniel Raposo.

As the WCIW is associated to the Sustainability goals, we choose 7 thematics of the #sdg which are connected to the celebration events: Education and Academic Research (4), Business (8), Social Transformation (10), Digital Transition and Cities (11), Sustainability (13 + 15) and Collaboration (17).

But we don’t want to restrict the creativity celebration events to that specific week, thus in Portugal will still take place the following events, where you can participate:

• 12 May, 10h00: 4th Conference of the Ciclo de Talks, “Criatividade e Inova??o no processo de investiga??o”, Short-talks de alunos de Doutoramento da ULisboa, Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade de Lisboa.
• 30 May: Innovation Day at Porto Digital
• 22 and 23 June: Design and Creativity for promoting healthier work in Industry 4.0, Showcase of ongoing projects and workshop on how to conduct research and create innovation in industry, organized by Fraunhofer Institute in Porto.
