Portfolio Project HandSafety VR
This blog is about our final project: HandSafety VR at Holberton's foundation program.
Our project helps users learn how to handle dangerous chemicals in a safe, virtual reality environment. Our team is composed of Alina de Los Santos as lead developer, Guzman Caraballo as PM and dev, and myself as dev and QA. To reach the minimum functionalities the timeline was two weeks, so we wanted to focus on creating a simulator that is as similar to reality as possible while creating a friendly user interface. The project is useful for everyone who wants to be able to work with any kind of dangerous chemical. I focused on the testing field, as I found it quite challenging and important to reach a decent MVP.
Oddly enough, in the beginning, I wasn't expecting to enjoy the development process, however, now I can say I did enjoy it. So a big lesson I took from this experience is not to judge a project because it can get way more interesting than you thought. Also, my team is really into VR, so I went along with it because I thought it was an interesting technical challenge.
This is a screenshot of what you see inside the simulator:
The main tool we used to develop it was unreal engine which is the world's most open and advanced real-time 3D creation tool for photoreal visuals and immersive experiences such as VR.
Moving on to what you can actually do:
In my personal experience, the most difficult technical challenge was to reach a friendly user interface to make the user experience intuitive. This goal was reached by iterating between developing, testing and fix bugs/add needed features. By doing this, we could deliver a user-friendly and functional simulator.

Also i wanted to remark that during this final project i started to like QA. Because now i have a better understanding about the process and different technices used nowadays specifically in the VR field. Other lesson that i can take from this project is the fact that having a Project Manager is very important, as it allows the team to work based in certain deadlines and tasks.
