Port Delays
Shovanie Devraj , our Inbound Logistics Manager, has shared crucial updates and insights regarding recent developments in the shipping and import industry. These changes will impact the company’s shipments and clearance processes and pose a risk to delivery of our products; thus, it's important to keep all our stakeholders informed.
Port Delays and Challenges: The shipping industry has been experiencing various challenges that might affect the timelines of our orders. These challenges include:
? Port congestion.
? Equipment issues.
? Labor strikes and port "go-slows."
? Unpredictable weather conditions.
? Peak season.
Durban, Cape Town, and Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) ports have been significantly affected by these issues. As a result, vessels have been anchored offshore, which adds to the overall congestion.
Appointment-Based Port Entry: It's important to note that transporters now require appointments to access the port. Gone are the days when entry without a time slot was possible. Unfortunately, the number of daily slots is limited and allocated to all agents, including that of our company’s. We have no control over these appointments, and this situation may lead to some delays with collecting our containers.
In addition to these ongoing issues, there has been an issued notice of a possible strike at Transnet on Thursday, 26 October. Devraj is working closely with third-party agents to ensure minimal impact of these delays and challenges and keeping track of the possible risks involved in our shipments arriving late.
