Popular referencing styles

One major difficulty writers face in any paper is proper referencing. This is because most of the referencing styles have similarities. Here are a few of the popular referencing styles;

Harvard Referencing Style:

This style uses an author-date system and is commonly used in the social sciences. The author's last name and year of publication are included in parentheses in the text, followed by a full reference in the reference list.

Modern Language Association (MLA):

This style is often used in the humanities and includes the author's last name and page number in parentheses in the text, followed by a full reference in the Works Cited list.

Chicago / Turabian Style:

This style is used in history, literature, and the arts and includes either footnotes or endnotes with superscript numbers in the text, followed by a bibliography.

American Psychological Association (APA):

This style is commonly used in the social sciences and includes the author's last name and year of publication in parentheses in the text, followed by a full reference in the reference list.

Vancouver Referencing Style:

This style is often used in medicine and science and uses numbered in-text citations, followed by a numbered reference list. In this one, references list are numbered in the order in which the corresponding citations appear in the body of your text, rather than listed alphabetically by author.
