Popular bar moving to Highlands from New Albany; chicken mogul expands into apartment rentals

A popular New Albany, Indiana, bar and restaurant is relocating to Louisville’s Highlands neighborhood this fall.
Joe Phillips, owner of Pints & Union , said his business will move from its current location at 114 E. Market St. in New Albany to 1576 Bardstown Road by Thanksgiving weekend. He plans on operating in New Albany, where Pints & Union is leasing space, until Nov. 15.
The more than 2,500-square-foot Highlands building was previously occupied by Against the Grain’s Public House, which closed last month. Prior to that, the property was Cumberland Brews for nearly 20 years. | Read more

Grocer opening near Holiday Manor
A natural market and smoothie bar is set to open in a former Paul’s Fruit Market location in East Louisville next week.
A spokesperson for Louisville-based Rainbow Blossom Natural Food Markets told Business First the chain plans to open its sixth location at 4946 Brownsboro Road, adjacent to the Holiday Manor shopping center, on Sept. 28.
Work began on the renovation of the property back in March, after Paul’s Fruit Market relocated its longtime Brownsboro Road location to 4966 US 42. That move nearly doubled the size of its footprint. | Read more

Big private school opens $5M building
Christian Academy of Louisville has cut the ribbon on a new $5 million building on its English Station campus in East Louisville.
According to a press release, the new 15,000-square-foot facility now houses the school’s Junior Academy program for three- and four-year-olds and includes eight classrooms, a multi-purpose room, a new playground, and separate drop-off and pick-up lanes.
The project was delayed due to the pandemic, along with rising costs for construction and building supplies. The price increased nearly $800,000 from an estimated cost of $4.2 million we reported in June of last year.

Massive spec warehouse courts tenants
One of the area's largest commercial real estate developers is making headway on its newest facility.
America Place 's 570,000-square-foot warehouse on a 35-acre campus at the River Ridge Development Authority in Jeffersonville, is set to be complete at the start of next year.
There's no tenant yet, but the commercial real estate company has received some calls from interested parties and America Place founder and CEO Jim Karp said the leasing team is "deeply interested" in a tenant that's "compatible to River Ridge."

Carali's Rotisserie Chicken owner to build $3 million apartment complex
A local restaurateur is expanding his business portfolio from roasting, to renting
Caralis Rotisserie owner Rafael Dapello is planning to build a 24-unit apartment complex at 5049 Poplar Level Road, according to a permit filed with the Louisville Metro Planning and Design Commission.
Dapello and his business partner German Hernandez purchased the early 1-acre property in 2020 for $15,000, according to a deed filed with the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office.?
Dapello has become one of Louisville’s most successful restaurateurs in recent years, opening six Carali's since the Peruvian chicken chain’s founding in 2016.?| Read more

Upscale steakhouse reveals opening date
An upscale steakhouse will open its second location this fall in Downtown Louisville.
Steak & Bourbon announced on social media this week that it plans to open its new location at 115 S. Fourth St. on Nov. 1. The 10,000-square-foot-space is undergoing renovations and was previously occupied by Z’s Oyster Bar & Steakhouse Downtown, which shut its doors in 2017.
The steakhouse is owned by Ole Hospitality Group, which is the company behind other concepts like Se?ora Arepa, La Bodeguita de Mima, Taco Luchador, and Guaca Mole Modern Mexican. | Read more
