A Poor Credit Score Does not Mean Your Client is POOR.

Let’s face it, there’s a level of embarrassment that goes along with not being able to qualify for a loan. If you are a professional whose career depends on your client’s credit score, you know this to be true. Assuming all is well, some people will avoid looking at their credit score until they need to use it for a purchase. When their credit is finally pulled, they are sometimes surprised, and not pleasantly.

The interesting thing is that we have found that even those who make a great income may still have credit score challenges. Here are some reasons we see this at CreditAdvisor,inc.:

1.      There is someone else reporting on their report.

2.      Business professionals are busy people who spend many hours focusing on their work, and sometimes do not remember/do not have time to pay their bills, change over an expired card on an auto withdraw account, etc. .

3.      Professionals often have student loan debts that can be a hard thing to juggle.  One person can have more than 15 loans, with each of them being a different amount. Maybe a loan fell out of deferment or forbearance, (It is the borrowers sole responsibility to keep track of these yearly dates).

4.      If someone continuously pays everything off, maybe only uses their American Express, and doesn’t use other credit options often, it is possible to have a lower credit score simply from of the lack of use.

5.      Some professionals have had to work their way up to the top, and at one point, they may not have been able to afford their bills. 7 years is a long time to have negatives on your report holding scores down!

6.      When someone makes big purchases in big price brackets, their score needs to be excellent, not just good. A score of 740+ may be necessary in order to qualify for certain Jumbo loans.
