Ponics Understood

Ponics Understood

I hired myself for this gig - make a 1 min audio visual presentation on - HYDROPONICS vs AQUAPONICS.

I wanted to differentiate my own self. So I hired my own self.

This is what came out eventually.

Please do tell me what you like and what you don't like.?

?---------

HOW TO MAKE SUCH A PREZ

A cake only needs 4 ingredients and an oven. But little things can cause catastrophic baking disasters.?

Making a video presentation is very similar. It takes little to mess it up - so please bear with the CAUTION paragraphs as you read through.?

STEP 1 - SCRIPTING

Everything starts at writing.

26 alphabets.

They make words.

Words become sentences. And meaning.

That's all we have to evoke emotion in the audience.?

The script writing on Google Docs
CAUTION SECTION

What you 'write' becomes what they 'hear'. Videos become boring because they become overwhelming narrations.

1. Say little. And say the same thing twice.?

2. Use small and short sentences with easy to understand spoken words.?

?---------

STEP 2 - VISUALIZATION

When I knew what I wanted you to hear - I got busy with the most powerful illustration tool out there - Adobe Illustrator.?

I broke up my script into 4-5 pieces and started doodling what visuals will show up for each section.?

The fish icon arrived.?

The cow arrived.?

I visualized the MIXER panel to demonstrate the settings in a Hydroponic nutrient solution. I think that was very clever of me - what do you think? :)

Lay out all your artwork into layers in Illustrator. When you will be importing the layer into After Effects (Stage 3) - import the entire document as a composition with identical dimensions - no need to keep track of anything else.?

See this video for some good tips.

CAUTION

Geniuses like Resnick and Halliday are revered teachers.

Their illustrations have helped us understand stuff like Friction and Gravity - things we can't 'see' - only 'feel'.?

The most powerful storytellers have a gift to convert words into imagery. If you have it - hone it. If you don't - consider hiring someone. You won't regret it ever.?

?---------

STEP 3 - ANIMATION

I would argue After Effects is actually Adobe's most powerful product yet. However the hammer is just a tool - the skill lies with the carpenter.?

Animation is basically illusions. These 12 principles will be helpful.

CAUTION

- Good Animation takes time. Be patient.?

- List your animations - otherwise you're asking for trouble

?---------

STEP 4 - SOUND DESIGN

Most presentations do well without sound. However my head is noisy. So it tends to spill out in my presentations. :)

Sound in is 3 categories -?

1. The voice over (what you are hearing in the PONICS animation - that's my voice)

2. The effects (all those little tinkle tankle sounds you're hearing - they create interest and keep you hooked)

3. Background Score (I have not used any in this video)

UNSOLICITED ADVICE

- Have a word with your musician friend and you'll be pleasantly surprised how much goes into good sound.

- This is one of the master secrets of the film making world - its called 'Foley'

Do you really think they keep microphones near the horse's feet to record their gallop sounds ?

A NOTE ABOUT THE 'BACKGROUND SCORE'

The background score is usually the most disturbing of them all. However when done right - it can become this.?

- - - -

I use dedicated software* for my sound design. I use a MIDI keyboard to generate sound samples and rhythm. I use guitars and electronic drums to make music - if required.

*Cuckos is my DAW and most of my rhythms and beats I create using live instruments or Ableton. If you're interested in how to merge your musical skills with sound production - reach out I'll give you some easy hacks.
