Yesterday was the official opening of the new MRI Scanner at QA Hospital.
The new MRI Scanner (which is based in the x-ray and scanning department) was officially unveiled by Portsmouth Football Club player, Danny Rose. Danny spent three weeks receiving treatment for a broken leg at QA Hospital and was delighted to attend. “I wanted to give something back to the hospital that helped me get well,” he said.
Danny brought along a football which was signed by the entire Portsmouth Football Club. It will be raffled off later on in the year to help raise funds for the department. Lewis Rutter, CT & MR Support and Development Facilitator expressed the thoughts of many: “I am grateful to Danny and the entire team. Auctioning off the football will really boost our charitable funds and help us purchase other equipment like this new high-tech MRI scanner!”
The opening was celebrated by a ribbon cutting. The Trust’s Chief Nurse, Theresa Murphy, came along to take a look at the new machine. “Today is a very exciting day, as this new high class facility that will benefit thousands of our patients,” she said.
The new MRI scanner will replace the old scanner, providing better care for patients of Portsmouth. “This new scanner is so much faster and quieter compared to the old scanner which will really benefit the department,” explained Nicky Wragg, CT and MRI Superintendent. “The whole MRI team are pleased to have it finally ready to go, with our first patient trying it out today.”
