A retrofit residential project in Solihull?required a system upgrade to modernise the traditional heating system.
The project, completed in just three days by PPH Pointy Plumbing Heating , entailed replacing an outdated single-pipe copper system with a more efficient flow and return configuration, using PolyPlumb Enhanced 15mm fittings.
This retrofit work was part of a larger renovation that included the installation of six cast iron radiators upstairs, underfloor heating and an unvented cylinder.
With the project being undertaken in a period property, one of the significant challenges during the installation process was limited access to existing pipework in the older parts of the property. Running new copper pipes would have been both time-consuming and costly. However, by using the PolyPlumb Enhanced system, the installer was able to navigate these constraints with ease, reducing the need for multiple fittings and enabling long runs of pipe to be laid without the need for joints.
The PolyPlumb Enhanced fitting’s unique haptic click, resulting from its In-Cert?feedback technology, gave the installer confidence that pipes had been inserted correctly and securely, even in tight spaces where visual inspection wasn’t possible. This feature provided the home owner and installer with assurance that each connection was robust and leak-proof.
In addition to this, the flexibility of the PolyPlumb pipework meant that fewer joints were needed, reducing the risk of leaks. In one instance, a section of pipework was installed under a floating floor, and the absence of the requirement for joints?allowed the pipe to be lagged easily, avoiding the need for further access under the floor.

The installer utilised PolyPlumb pipe cutters which ensured precise cutting, enabling the job to be completed quickly. Further to this, the system’s push-fit technology meant that, even in restricted areas under the floorboards, the pipework could be installed and connected easily and at pace. Twisting the pipe after insertion ensured a firm fit, and the smooth transition from plastic to copper provided a neat finish, enhancing both performance and aesthetics.
Pointy Robert Clarke, owner of PPH Pointy Plumbing & Heating Services, commented,
"Having used PolyPlumb fittings for over 11 years, I have always found them reliable, and the new Enhanced range has taken things to another level. The added rumble strips make it easy to confirm correct fitting, even in tricky spaces such as the restricted areas in this project. PolyPlumb Enhanced is now my preferred choice for all projects, offering premium performance at a competitive price."
The system was tested upon completion, with no leaks detected. The use of PolyPlumb Enhanced fittings allowed for the quick and seamless installation of five flow and return pipe runs, ensuring reliability for years to come. The property owner was particularly impressed with the professional and tidy appearance of the installation, which far exceeded expectations for a push-fit system.
