VINYLESTER
Starting material for Vinyl ester is an unsaturated Vinyl ester resin, the C=C bond occurs only at the end of the reactive process therefore cross linkage takes place only at the end and Vinlyester consists of a number of OH Groups (Hydroxyl ) along its length
These OH groups form hydrogen bonds with excellent adhesion in the and Wet-out in the Glass fibers, as below the schematic representation of the vinyl ester resin
- Vinyl esters are unsaturated likely diluted in solvents as Styrene monomer to reduce the Viscosity
- During polymerization the styrene cross links between unsaturated points in adjacent Vinylester molecule
- Vinyl ester resin possess good characteristics like excellent chemical resistance , Tensile strength , Low Viscosity and fast curing
- The Volumetric shrinkage is one factor in vinylester resin which is about 5 % to 10% , Which is higher than that of epoxy resins
- They have low adhesive strength compared to epoxy resins
- For improved temperature applications , Heat resistant Phenolic novalac types to be used
