Poly Bag Consumption Calculation in Apparel Industry

We all know a fact that "Place for everything and everything in it's place". To keep anything secured & in it's own place, poly bag is a must needed thing. And in apparel industry when it's the matter of keeping apparel item intact, dust and moisture free, poly bag plays a very important role. It also impacts on the total pricing of the orders. So, today we will try to understand how we can calculate the consumption of Poly Bags.

As an apparel merchandiser, we must have clarifications on below things while calculating the poly bag calculation;

1. Poly bag length (In Inch)

2. Poly bag width (In Inch)

3. Thickness of poly bag (In gauge)

4. 1/2 Flap of poly bag (In Inch)

Formula we will use;

Poly Bag consumption (For 1000 Pcs in kg)=

{(Length + 1/2 Flap) X Width X Thickness} / 3300

Now for better understanding, we do a real life calculation of poly bag consumption;

Let's assume that a buyer gives us an order quantity of 1,50,000 Pcs where the dimension of the poly bags;

1. Length of Poly Bag: 37"

2. Poly bag width: 27"

3. Thickness of poly bag: 165 gauge

4. 1/2 Flap: 3"

Solution:

Poly Bag consumption (For 1000 Pcs in kg)=

{(Length + 1/2 Flap) X Width X Thickness} / 3300

= {(37 + 3) X 27 X 165} / 3300

= 178200 / 3300 = 54 kg/1000 Pcs

Now, the total consumption for 1,50,000 Pcs will be;

= (54 X 150) kg = 8100 kg

That's how can calculate the poly bag consumption on our day to day merchandising life.
