Politics impacts business and our security.

Yes, I know that LinkedIn is not the forum for politics, but remember that what the politicians do directly impacts our businesses. Personally, I'm a moderate when it comes to politics. Like much of America, I think, I'm dismayed at the games that keep getting played at the expense of progress. Both sides of the political spectrum think that this is a college football game and they must root for whatever or however their side plays. No matter how bad the idea, "it's our team so it must be right!" That's just crazy!

I wasn't a fan of our last couple of presidents to be honest, but don't think for one second that everyone in each administration had bad ideas or bad intentions for our country. And I remember vividly that half of this country supported the last one. January 20th, I watched as our new President spoke about unity, a fantastic idea and something that we need more of. I do not see anything wrong with national pride. But then was dismayed at an article that his first executive order was to review every action taken by the previous administration. What happened to the unity? We're slipping into a trend where a party gets power and forces their agenda upon everyone, then it'll get reversed by the next party to gain power. That's just crazy!

Here's an example. I work in the electrical industry. President Trump's EO-13920 states. "The bulk-power system is a target of those seeking to commit malicious acts against the United States and its people, including malicious cyber activities..." I believe that this is true and Americans don't realize the damage that a successful cyber attack on the power grid could do to our country. Malware can easily be embedded in devices purchased from other countries and lay dormant and very difficult to detect. There are many types of devices that support our critical infrastructure that simply shouldn't be purchased from countries that have proven they aren't our friends. That just makes sense!

Our government is a very big machine. It took from May 2020 until December for the Department of Energy and other agencies to determine that electrical equipment from the People’s Republic of China shouldn't be trusted. Ha! I think that they missed a few countries and could have probably determined that back in May, but they did their due diligence and I expected a few more countries to be added to that list. President Biden's first day executive order suspended it. That's just... politics!
