The Politics of Fear

We live today is this jaded society where we fear practically everything and everyone. They're ALL "out to get us" and if we don't "protect ourselves," it'll be curtains for "us."

It's some Republicans saying that the "next Civil War" will be between Americans & Democrats. What? Huh? Did I fall asleep and miss the part where Democrats were excommunicated from Citizenship?

It's some Democrats suggesting that Republicans are vile, evil people who can't be trusted to be in your "circle" so you have to "keep it small." Really? Small?

I want to explain something to each of you that may leave you gasping for breath, possibly even in need of immediate medical attention.

I. DON'T. FEAR. ANYONE. OR. ANYTHING.

Now backup buster, before I'm forced to take evasive action here BUT.

Some of my best friends are Republicans. Three come immediately to mind. Michael Strine, Chris Streeter and Gracie Jones. 

Michael sent a meme last night offering me a binky since I was a little trumpie hater. People took exception to that but I KNEW he was just picking on me. We've been through far too much together as best pals for any other reaction.

Chris is my Cousin and we go back so far that neither of us can remember. I post, he pushes my buttons, my BP bubbles up and then we have some fun. He's a Trump fan and I'm not. It's ok, we're all entitled to our beliefs.

Gracie from Church. We have some of the BEST conversations and we simply agree to disagree. She prays for me, I pray for her, it all works.

There are a TON more, but those three are folks that pop up all the time.

I don't unfriend people because they don't agree with me, it's not my thing. Wanna know why? Because no matter what your politics are, I could care less. If you're a friend, you're a friend and Politics isn't going to change that UNLESS YOU let it.

Do I take offense once in a while? Sure. Do I let it bubble around until I rip your head off? Umm, nope. Know why? Because it's not that important in the scheme of our relationship. It's just not.

You will probably notice that my "friends" number bounces around. I post and somebody hates the post and unfriends me. That's the way this thing goes. We have charts and graphs of how that happens, and it's frankly amazing.

However, in the overall scheme of things, with nearly 55,000 followers and 5 Million Likes across the social media spectrum, I can't say that any of it excites me one way or the other. Looking at our analytics just since the end of January, we are up over 10,000 readers in February. 10,000. That's a pretty significant number. In fact, total viewership is now over 361,000 each month, while listenership is punching holes in 200,000 daily.

While it's ALWAYS a numbers game in Media, the TRUTH is, the TRUTH is what it's all about. And here's one single salient FACT: WE DON'T CARE if you believe in the truth or not. The truth IS the truth and we will always tell just that. If it doesn't agree with YOUR truth, so be it, but we will keep right on telling it.

That's what we do over here and there was a time, in this country, when THAT mattered.

To us, it still does.
