Political Pixels: the run-down of the week’s good digital politics

It’s a week on from the local elections, and as soon as the ballot boxes closed and the doors to polling stations shut at 10pm on the 4th May, the long slog towards the General Election began. Now whilst we may not see the numbers of campaigners hitting the streets surge in the immediate future, we are sure to see MPs, aspiring MPs and party faithful gently ramp up what they’re posting online.?

Every week I’ll be looking at what’s being posted by political parties, politicians, influencers and policy wonks online - and highlighting some interesting examples of digital campaigning. Whether it’s a behind the scenes video, a series of branded graphics or a blog post, I’ll analyse what’s working well - and give my take on where improvements can be made.

Send me your suggestions, tips and examples of posts that you’ve seen via the comments or on Twitter- I’m on @lauraemilyd.?

Let’s dive in to some of this week’s picks…!

1| No 10, ‘Cut Waiting Lists’ + expansion of pharmacy services: a short, effective video from No 10 clearly setting out what the expansion of pharmacy services means and how it aims to cut waiting lists. They’ve linked this back to No 4 on their ‘People’s Priorities’ list and woven in the PM’s personal story. This is the clear messaging that the government needs to be doing more of.

2 | Labour, ‘Proud’: linked to the Coronation, this short video focuses on the views of real people and what makes them proud about Britain, linked to the Coronation. It’s simple and effective.?

3 | Gillian Keegan, ‘World Education Forum’: a great explainer video about the World Education Forum that the Education Secretary opened. But what caught my eye is the opening- a really fun inclusion of the red box as Keegan left her house to attend the Forum. Quirky details like these never disappoint!

4 | Gillian Keegan, Behind the Scenes at the Coronation: bonus points to Keegan for posting some behind the scenes shots from the Coronation. It was a long wait for guests!
