Political Legacy: The Leaders’ Lasting Impact on the Future
I heard last Thursday, during “Au Coeur de l’info” hosted by my friend Prem Sewpal, Mr Alain Gordon-Gentil, a sharp observer of socio-political Mauritius opined that, with the new opposition alliance “a vacuum has been filled”.
What sort of vacuum am I tempted to ask? The vacuum, in my opinion, should be considered in terms of our capacity of producing real political leaders. Not those who consider winning elections as an end in itself but those who seriously want to leave a legacy.
The political legacy of a leader should reverberate far beyond their time in office. Political leaders, irrespective of “ideology”, or rather tendency need to leave behind a lasting impact that reflects their vision, principles, and achievements.
The question of what these leaders would want to be remembered for is crucial, as it delves into their motivations and aspirations to shape a better world for generations to come.
Which ones would I follow?
·??????Those who seek to be remembered for their unwavering commitment to a higher purpose, one that transcends personal ambition and embraces the collective welfare of their constituents. They strive to create societies characterized by justice, equality, and prosperity for all. Whether through reforms, economic policies, or infrastructure development, those who aim to foster a sense of national unity.
?
·??????Those who champion democracy and Human Rights. Those who envision a society where the rule of law prevails, civil liberties are safeguarded, and the voices of all citizens are heard and respected. Ensuring free and fair elections, upholding the freedom of the press, and fostering an environment for constructive political discourse are among the hallmarks of their legacy.

1 年" Le Poisson pourrit par la tete" I would be tempted to say Eddy Jolicoeur. Without being fatalist, I am thus tempted to say we deserve the Leaders we have since it looks like mediocrity attracts a lot of people these days but You have encircled a number of Exceptions, and I pray that both the Elites and the Masses challenges their own thinking ( se remettre en question) to become followers that deserve the highest ethically-driven Leaders, both in the Political and Business Arenas. I dream of having a school where Politicians will sit down and learn about Values, Integrity, Respect, Humility, Service to others, Detachement and Leadership....

1 年Well said Eddy - we do need to be demanding towards our political leaders / politicians. How can we bring the best out of the people of our country when our role models (so to speak) are mediocre in running the affairs of the country!!
Walking with people and helping them along the way
1 年Thanks Eddy.
Unfortunately out of 10... 9 will think u are too demanding, given the circumstances. We are too weak to be ambitious... As far as I am concerned...if out of 3 candidates one was a dog.... guess for "whom" I would vote...
