MAHA - not just a slogan, pledges RFK Jr
Since joining forces with US presidential candidate Donald Trump in the November 5 2024 bid for the White House, politician, activist and lawyer Robert F Kennedy Jr has maintained a steady stream of ads laying out specifically what he has in mind in the event of another Trump administration.
The nephew of assassinated President John F Kennedy (JFK), and also the son of assassinated Attorney General Robert F Kennedy, RFK Jr is, like Trump, a former Democrat. The 70-year-old has riffed off Trump's trademark MAGA (Make American Great Again) cry with his own accompanying slogan - MAHA (Make American Healthy Again).
It's not just a slogan, the father-of-six insists.
As well as pledging in this ad to "clean up" the public health agencies, RFK Jr consistently specifies policies to empower farmers, ban toxic chemicals, and fix dietary guidelines to benefit public health - an approach with huge appeal for many in a country suffering high levels of obesity and chronic disease.
"I’m ready to implement a bold, win-win plan with President Trump’s administration – a plan that puts family farmers, consumers, and our environment first."
Other high-profile Democrats to shift their support to the Republican ticket include X's Elon Musk, and Democratic presidential candidate in the 2020 election?Tulsi Gabbard.
Announcing her decision to join the Republicans, Gabbard denounced Vice-President Kamala Harris - the Democrat candidate - as "anti-freedom, pro-censorship, pro-open borders, and pro-war", and stressed the need for the a party representing common sense, peace and the people.
As Trump stood by on the same platform, Gabbard said the Democrat Party has no home for independent-minded people and freedom-lovers, but that the Republicans welcome them with open arms.
Amid a growing sense of genuine political change in the final run-up to the November 5 elections, the Trump campaign filed against the British government for election interference, under-scoring the former president's message in an earlier animated ad that:
"Greatness is for anyone willing to fight for it"
Alongside the psychological profiling and subject tweaking of the political ads, there is, as always, an almost unimaginable amount of money involved in the election campaigns. Broadcaster CNN reports "a total of more than $1.1 billion spent on presidential campaign ads between July 22, the day after [incumbent President] Biden withdrew from the race, and the end of September".
