Polishing And Refining Manuscripts
Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your support throughout the publishing process. It has been a tremendous joy knowing that there is a community of loving and supportive individuals and professionals who genuinely care about the safety and productivity of a book as it makes its way through the publishing offices and into the shelves of bookstores. My goal is that everyone will be able to have accessto a copy of each of my books where they will be read and cherished and shared with family and friends.
I must confess that writing these books was so much more enjoyable and enriching than carefully and lovingly watching them make their way through the publishing process. While transferring them through the publisher's offices, it seems that so much control is transferred to complete strangers who may or may not have the same best interests of these beloved words that seemed to spring forth during the writing process.
My campaign to ensure the success of these books was to follow a detailed strategy proven to be successful by other authors who have completed this process before me. I built a website, launched a social media platform and began sharing posts. My Linkedin network grew and blossomed. Twitter posts began pouring in-- some from authors who were not so polite and civil and many from genuinely concerned and caring authors who hope to see everyone completing the publishing process with the highest level of success.
It seems that the most common concern among pre-published and published authors is that every author has a committed agent. Initially, I believed that writing any manuscript was like a tiny and fragile seed which would germinate and flourish under the right conditions. If an author loves his or her work enough, it will become that published book which you see sitting on shelves in your favorite bookstore.
I began receiving request from authorized agents to query my work. Hesitantly, I queried with Lynnette Novak and Elisa Houot of the Seymour Agency. As it turns out, I was rejected by both. I queried with Nina Leon of High Spot Literary. Only a short while ago, yet another formal rejection letter arrived in my email inbox informing me that while I have great potential, my work simply does not fit in well with her current caseload. It arrived as such bittersweet news.

A few days ago, I submitted the necessary paperwork and information to join the Writer's Guild, but I happen to be of the mind frame that the publisher should pay the initial membership fees before the collection of books have been delivered to the bookstores and made available to the readers. My philosophy is that the publishers should take on some portion of the responsibility, since the author has devoted and encapsulated so much of oneself into the development and writing of the book itself.
If you happen to be having similar experiences to mine, I applaud you for the effort and commitment that you have already endeavored to put into such a huge project.
It seems common among authors when questioned, to describe the most fundamental components of publishing a book. My quickest response always seems to be, of course, pacing and sequencing. Setting is such an important aspect of every book, and I have endeavored so much to create and detail the most vivid and detailed settings for the characters. My characters, I believe are believable, independent, highly and exquisitely detailed, and readily capable of being mentors and best friends.
If you are a reader anticipating the experience of being able to finally read any of my novels and/or sit down with any of my children's books and pick up a copy to share and read with your children, classroom, or day care group. thank you for your concern and support.
Happy reading!
