I have a question for my LI connections. How many of you have heard of the Police Unity Tour (PUT)? Please comment below and let me know if you have or have not.
I ask because I only recently became aware of it myself. The Police Unity Tour is a 250-mile bike ride over 3 days that ends at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC during National Police Week. The bike riders are comprised of current and retired law enforcement officers and the immediate family members of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
The Mission of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of those officers who die in the line of duty and to support the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum. Each Member raises funds through events and donations to meet and honor our mission. It is only through the generosity and financial support of thousands of individuals and businesses that we accomplish this mission.
In my 22+ year federal law enforcement career, I personally knew too many of the names engraved on that memorial and have been to the funerals of many more.
I will be riding in the Police Unity Tour in May 2020 in memory of Provo Police Master Officer Joseph Shinners who was shot and killed by a fugitive in the line of duty in the city where my current office is; EOW: January 5, 2019.
I will also be riding in memory of Border Patrol Agent Alexander Kirpnick, who was shot and killed by a cartel drug smuggler in Nogales, AZ; EOW: June 3, 1998. I worked with Alexander and was only 14 months into my law enforcement career at the time and a newlywed. Myself and my wife were deeply affected by his murder
Please help me by spreading the word about the Police Unity Tour, and if you feel so inclined, we would really appreciate any donations that go towards funding the National Law Enforcement Memorial. A link to donate is included below.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!

5 年Jared, I rode in three previous Police Unity Tours. It was a great experience as well as an awesome way to bring awareness to others about police deaths in the line of duty. I will be riding in the 2020 PUT chapter 1. The bike ride is from East Hanover, NJ to Washington, DC approximately 350 miles. The ride is only a part of it, each rider has to raise at least $1,950 for the Police Memorial Fund in order to participate.
