The Police Presence
There is a perception that thieves run wild. It's easy for some news outlets to malign San Francisco. Visiting that city last summer- there were no catch and grabs witnessed.
There were active security guards at Walgreen's. Many of the locals were stuffing items into their pockets. There are still too many panhandlers in San Francisco. At least there is not the gauntlet once you exit the BART station.
The security guards were so vigilant I did not shop for long. In many cases I have seen pairs of police officers checking a situation. I was at the library last week. A call came through.
No one knows where I am when they call. Issues had to be addressed and the call was a little heated. Reasonable force- it's a little known fact that when women take me seriously I listen to their reprimands.
One would think that would prepare me for a relationship. One has nothing to do with the other. As we discussed the matter at hand the police and security guard were removing an unruly guest. It was more heated than the call.

The library should be a peaceful place, not somewhere for the irrational to raise their voices. Our story ends at Tysons Corner. As I waited for a movie to begin and realized how few stores in this active mall that rarely has empty storefronts resonate with me; the police walked into Kiehl's.
Obviously I did not ask what it was about. There have been snatch and grab scenarios at Pentagon City. Metro access might lead someone to think they can make a quick getaway.
There are cameras on Metro and crime doesn't pay. That is one time I would not mind delays or track work. The point is- I would rather see police officers in the area than witnessing crimes. It does not seem like they are not pursuing criminals.
With theft there is not a lot that can be done. During my Front Desk Agent days there were people robbed occasionally. The police took the report and probably took it as far as possible. That does not mean anyone was arrested.
The police are doing what they can. It is amazing how the Black Lives Matter movement seemed to lose momentum when they starting saying "Defund the Police." No one has done that; the same way that no Democrat is coming for your guns. Perception is not necessarily reality and the police are doing what they are supposed to instead of picking and choosing which cases to prioritize.
