After an Overnight Manhunt, Police Located the Shooter Who Shot and Killed Three Students, & Injured Two More.?The Capture was Announced During a Monday Press Conference, where the Chief?said ?the Suspect, Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr., a student at the school, and former UVA Football Player, Had Been Located and Taken into Custody.?

Gunfire was initially reported at a parking garage near the school’s drama building, around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night, according to the UVA office of Emergency Management.??A manhunt was launched for the suspect and students were issues warnings earlier to “RUN HIDE FIGHT”, and to shelter in place.?A search was conducted on and around the campus grounds early Monday, the university’s emergency management office said, involving multiple agencies, including a Virginia State Police helicopter.

University President, Jim Ryan, said in an email to students, “I am heartbroken to report that the shooting has results in three fatalities. This is a message any leader hopes never to have to send, and I am devastated that this violence has visited the University of Virginia,”?He said.?He went on to say that classes would be canceled for Monday, with only designated essential employees expected to report to work.

During the search for the suspect, the University of Virginia Police Department warned people to not approach the suspect, considered to be “armed and dangerous,”, and they also shared a photo of Jones.?The suspects mother told NBC News in a phone call that the Jones lived with his grandmother since he was 16, and that she didn’t know his whereabouts, or what caused him to start shooting.
