Polestar 3 Test Drive

Shoutout to Collin at Polestar Columbus...

Impressive

Somehow I got an invitation to test drive the all-new Polestar 3 SUV before the official release (next week as I understand)... and of course, I am all in!

If you don't know, it is positioned as an alternative to the TESLA Model X. Also made here is the USA, South Carolina to be exact:

We’re headquartered in Sweden. We have our dedicated R&D facility in the UK. And our vehicles are produced in both China and the US. In other words, we go where we can best realise our idea of design-led, sustainable, electric performance. It is a good idea, after all. And good ideas are welcome everywhere.

The "fit and finish" was exceptional as Collin had pointed out, and this factory demo model had just been OTA'd to the "official release" version as I arrived. The "one-pedal driving" was spot on and the interior was very well done. In leather! And the sound system might not have an equal. The single motor versions are rear wheel drive and they should be IMNSHO. The 2025 "post-launch" 3s will get 325 miles of range, or so they state.

The price is in line with the X and special leasing offers make it affordable.

If you are in the market for a non-Tesla, this car should be on your shortlist. How can I say that? Because Polestars are used by various car rental companies. The demands placed on rentals are above and beyond the normal call of duty.

It Is Not A Tesla

Some people think that is a plus, however, not me. Having leased an X and driven several other Teslas, including several Ss, Xs and one Y and one CyberTruck, the software and features continue to lead the field. Fit and finish is very good in most cases. The interiors are okay but I miss my leather.

Then, there is the issue of charging. Tesla owners do not [or should NOT] have range anxiety. It is the only EV that I can recommend for Joe Average. Me, in other words. A gearhead that has owned 33 cars, now including a Nissan LEAF, I love to drive! And that means almost anywhere anytime across America. Which is exactly where Tesla has built Superchargers.
