An Antidote: Positive Organizational Behaviour (POB) framework

With reference to previous article here on the topic, workplace toxicity, lets talk a bit on an antidotal framework (one of many).

Positive Organizational Behavior (POB) framework.

It's a framework that focuses on cultivating positive emotions, strengths, and relationships within the workplace. Think of it as replacing the poison with sunshine and fresh air.?

POB in Action:

  • Actively disengage and discredit toxic personalities by awareness programs and decisions which makes similar statements.
  • Identify and counsel the toxic personalities: In some cases, toxic individuals may be unaware of the impact of their behavior and may be willing to change with guidance and support.
  • Celebrate successes, big and small: Recognition and appreciation boost morale and foster a sense of accomplishment.
  • Focus on employee strengths: Help individuals leverage their talents, leading to greater engagement and satisfaction.
  • Connect work to a larger purpose: Give employees a sense of meaning and belonging by aligning their work with the organization's mission.
  • Promote open communication and collaboration: Create a safe space for honest feedback and diverse perspectives, fostering trust and innovation.
  • Invest in employee well-being: Offer programs and resources that support mental and physical health, creating a more resilient workforce.

By embracing POB, (or any common sensical similar frame works) organizations can not only neutralize the toxins of workplace negativity but also cultivate a thriving environment where everyone can flourish.

Imagine a workplace where laughter replaces gossip, collaboration thrives over competition, and employees come to work feeling energized and valued.

Remember, building a positive workplace culture is an ongoing journey, not a quick fix. But by taking consistent steps towards POB, organizations can create a haven for happy, productive employees and reap the rewards of a thriving work environment and positive brand image and reputation.

Take a minute, scan through your workplace and identify the bullies, gossip mongers and negativity mongers and you are half way in mitigation planning.
