Point Of Order

Point Of Order

The month of June has been filled with engaging news and activities. This is the final week of youth month, it’s an end to a chapter or a new beginning to one.

As we reminisce on past events, stories, and people. Let's remind ourselves of the current aspects we find ourselves in. Strides to tackle various challenges are being made though many of them can’t be seen or heard of. It might be deals behind closed doors with handshakes here and there.

Visibility puts everyone at ease.

We continue to lose our history and ourselves in the process. Despite celebrations and cheerful gatherings on youth month, one would ask and wonder;

What will happen to our bravery, discussions, talks, and motivations about the youth’s sacrifice which led to a system downfall?

What if you woke up tomorrow to find yourself back in time to experience such an event?

Would you be brave?

Would you take action?

Or is it just a talk with no walk?

Our youth movements are paralyzed by structures, policies, and leadership battles.

Institutions of higher learning are filled and unemployed youth statistics keep rising. What’s the solution you ask? As much as strides are being made, so are scapegoating and blame games being played.

We celebrate youth day because it’s a holiday and is free to have a good time and relax from their tiring activities. Do we reflect enough on what this day means to us?

In times of mass protests on real issues affecting communities, we pose to take selfies, take videos, and tag friends for our trending statuses. Our passion for change has diminished. We rely and depend on NGOs to accelerate change in society.

A hungry man is an angry man.

We can be honest to say this youth month is bursting with chaos left and right. It is almost certain our ideologies of governance, leadership, and systems are repeatedly tested to some limits.

The tension and jump in the political atmosphere are felt in meetings and office corridors with loyalties divided. So is the country at large. Trust is broken in communities and patience tested too many times.

Concerned citizens cry for change, pour their hearts out and I can only be hopeful that the situation will get better with time amidst the pandemic and lockdown implementations.

Happy ending youth month!

At this time we need a Point Of Order, before we find ourselves in a more Chaotic State.

I am passionate about empowering young people to improve their mental and physical health. Do you know ?Half of all mental health conditions start by 14 years of age but most cases are undetected and untreated? ?Depression is the fourth leading cause of illness and disability among adolescents aged 15–19 years old and fifteenth for those aged 10–14 years old?
