Poem: He Made Windows in My Walls
When we met,
I found
he expected a glassen woman,
transparent-
ready for his exploration.
My innermost substance
was his new-discovered country;
he reveled in it.
Late at night
he lay awake
turning all my pages;
reading cover to cover
until I trembled at his interest.
It was a fearful thing to be really known,
and for months
I pulled heart curtains
over all the windows he installed.
Patiently,
he opened them again,
and searched the inner rooms
for pain I'd hidden.
His own windows
were always uncovered.
It was his way.
I began to trust,
and a disconnected part of me
slipped into place.
I jumped with surprise
the day our souls first touched
like happy children.
I loved him guilelessly, without secrets.
I felt small and pink.
I saw
I had never loved before.

THE QUEEN OF HEAVEN FOREVER
8 年Thank you, Aisha! Yes, I chose this poem today because this month we will celebrate ten years together. We married twelve days after we started dating. The photo is of a few of the paper flowers he leaves me- he leaves me one almost every morning with a love letter on the back. :)
