A Poem a Day: Countenance

A Poem a Day: Countenance

It's the sweetest thing to be reminded that our loving Father in Heaven is constantly looking after His children. This experience, my first Valentines Day without my wife turned out to be the start of the healing process. I was still grieving (still am) but each day brings renewed springs of comfort and joy.

Countenance

It was my first Valentines Day

And I didn’t know what to expect

The first since my wife passed away

And I was afraid my heart would break

As I slowly walked into a coffee shop

And sat down on a chair and leaned

I looked around and abruptly stopped

At the most beautiful woman l’ve ever seen

She had big, brown eyes, brightly shone

Sculpted cheekbones and chin, artists keep

Her rich, black hair fell softly, curvy and long

And a voice so pleasing, gentle, and sweet

She sat elegantly from a table across mine

In a seductive soft-toned, thigh-length dress

Speaking to her friends, intelligently sublime

A smile that made you remember nothing else

She looked ever so briefly at me from time to time

And I would stare at her perfect heavenly face

My heart would be beating too loudly all the while

As I silently thanked God for His love and grace

For I've already been here before

Stood in the presence of stunning beauty

When God brought love right at my door

And shown me the girl I was bound to marry

Maybe this is God’s way of telling me

That the loneliness I feel will not last

That He loves me and wants me to be free

And the sadness and misery will pass

Since my wife died, I have been trying

To get out of grief’s drowning swirl

Gym, languages, going out, dating

Even foolishly falling for the wrong girl

My daughters soon finally came

And I rose to meet them half way

Too bad I never got to know her name

Or maybe I will... when I am ready

Someday.
