Poem: The Creation of a Rootless Migrant Generation (?????: ???????? ???????? ???????)

The mass-scale migration out of the country may have a few adverse consequences. The conflicts in other nations may warrant relocation of the future generations. Will these PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin) be able to trace back their roots in India in case of any crisis?

Modern-day people are exposed to a large range of attractive merchandise made available worldwide.

Millions of people, indoctrinated into neck-deep consumerism, aspire for such merchandise.?

The production factory floors need a large assortment of talents to be deployed twenty-four hours a day on three shifts.

Huge columns of giant vehicles carry millions of finished products like smartphones, motor cars, etc., for transportation to the nearby logistic hub.

Those consignments then travel worldwide via a global supply chain using the air, land, and sea routes.

The younger generations are overwhelmed by the lure of these Global Manufacturing cum Distribution giants, the modern-day Pipers of Hamlyn.

The aspiring workforce from the younger generations are getting fascinated, hypnotized, and mesmerized.

The lures of faster self-development and growth,

The lures of generating wealth quickly,

The lure of a better lifestyle, a big house, a big car, staying in a decent locality in a foreign land, etc., spell a magical influence in their aspiring minds.

All such beacons are very compulsive.

The younger generations respond to these multinational Pipers of Hamlin.

They leave their families.

They leave their societies.?

They leave their villages.?

They leave their towns.

In short, they leave their homeland.

This is that homeland where they already received a decent education almost free of cost.

They leave that homeland that was legitimately expecting them to be grateful and serve their own country.

Instead, the younger generation looks forward to developing themselves and excelling in a foreign land full of opportunities.

In their adopted land, they try to establish themselves with sincerity and hard work.

--They strive to excel in business.?

--They strive to excel in job-related skills.

--They strive to excel in affluence.

--They strive to excel in higher education.

--They strive to embrace a better lifestyle.

--They strive to garner societal acceptance, etc.?

Undoubtedly, they put sincere and dedicated efforts into their land of adoption.

Their homeland suffers.

The talents have mostly left.

While the drum beats of self-development were being heard on the other side of the ocean,

here, in the land of origin, a few things go into oblivion.

ln their homeland, a few things deteriorate.

The villages go empty. There is nobody available to carry the dead either to the burning pyre or to the burial ground.

The mothers silently shed tears.

?Their sons and/ or daughters have not come back home for a long time.

The fathers have lost all hope for the future.

Their cultivable lands are not tilled for some time.?

The large residential houses need repair. The roofs are leaking.

Why at all spend money on a property that shall remain unoccupied after their demise?

The aged parents know the future writings on the wall.

A large mansion, the local king's palace, is lying uninhabited for many years. There is no one to light a lamp at night.

All the owners from the present generation have migrated abroad.

The mansion looks like a haunted place. No one dares to enter.

The chariot of progress has spelt doom to this village-centric social fabric of this mostly agrarian third-world country.

The younger generation has taken a ride on the chariot of progress.?

And, all of them have left the shores. They may not return.

Here is a food for thought.

People who have pursued a well-calculated path to self-development, self-progress, and accumulation of wealth for self in a foreign land, need to do some soul-searching.

Today, their roots in the villages are getting weak and obliterated due to abject negligence.

Very soon, these roots may not be discernable.

God forbid, if their next generations are driven out of their land of adoption, due to some unforeseen apartheid,

can they get back to their roots for a solace???
