PoDSI — Proof of Data Segment Inclusion

Filecoin storage providers use sectors of 32GiB and 64GiB. Because of these comparably large sector sizes, SPs are incentivized to accept storage deals closer to this cap size. An SP will receive more FIL rewards for storing a 31 GiB file rather than a 200 KiB file. Due to this, Filecoin Clients will need help finding a storage provider to accept deals for small amounts of data, which can be daunting.

To get around this problem,?Lighthouse?enables developers to aggregate their data into bundles. The deal-aggregation process bundles a collection of small storage deals with many others to create one large deal.

The aggregation module may raise questions about trusting the party that aggregates data on behalf of the user. Lighthouse solves this by providing an inclusion proof called PoDSI to the user discussed below.

PoDSI (Proof of Data Segment Inclusion)

Proof of Data Segment Inclusion is an inclusion proof provided by the aggregator module to the end user to verify that their file is included in the bundle being sent to the miner for deal-making.

This proof is generated for each file and provided to the user.?PoDSI can be verified?on the user’s end by a verification contract providing a trustless assurance to the user of the inclusion of their data into a bundle by the aggregator.
