Podcasts in May & June

Our guests joined from Indonesia, Kenya, Philippines, South Africa and Zimbabwe

We got five podcasts done in the last two months as a part of the series on climate change and food security that I am hosting with Prof. Jaideep Prabhu .?

?We continue probing the impact of climate change on fish. Last year, we had hosted Arnab Sengupta , an alum of the Judge Business School, to understand what is happening to tuna. This month we hosted Prof. Merle Sowman of the?Department of Environmental and Geographical Sciences at University of Cape Town and her doctoral student Menka Vansant to understand how climate change and large scale economic development (including the building of clean energy infrastructure) is imperilling small fishing communities in South Africa.? Listen to the episode here. From South Africa, we moved to Philippines to understand how the collaboration between a large non-governmental organisation, private companies and community organisations is helping small fishing? communities export tuna and earn more. Listen to our podcast with? Melody Melo-Rijk of WWF-Philippines here.

Rice and fish is the favourite dish of many in the world we come from so our next podcast explored how Preferred by Nature , an international NGO, is partnering with the Indonesia Rice Millers and Traders Association? implement sustainable rice practices for both farmers and millers. Listen to our podcast with Angga Maulana Yusuf here.? ???

The importance of partnerships came up in the podcasts we did with?Angga Yusuf? and Melody Melo-Rijk. Relationships are key but making them successful is not an easy task as many people know often all too well . To understand how very different organisations can strike successful partnerships we did two podcasts with Helen Yapp of Futurepump Ltd Futurepump, a small UK-based company which manufactures solar pumps from their factory in India and sells them across the world. We first talked to Helen and Stephen Wambua of Davis & Shirtliff , Africa’s leading water and energy company to understand how a small and a very large organisation can keep a partnership going. We then flipped and talked to Helen and Isaiah Nyakusendwa of Celfre Energy , a start-up from Zimbabwe to understand how two small organisations can manage to keep things going even with their individual limitations. We could release these two podcasts only in the first week of July (client work came in the way) and you can listen to the podcasts here and here.

I hope you found the podcasts interesting. Subscribe to my newsletter to know about podcasts on these topics this year.? Do let me know what you think of the podcasts and also let me know who you think I should host.
