Are podcasts the new way of self care?

Well, with new year festivities coming to an end, the pressure on us to hold up to ‘New Years’ resolutions’ is pretty high! We have one activity that you can include in your daily schedule to stick to at least one basic resolution of “Self-care and Self-awareness”.

Who doesn’t need a helping hand every now and then? As we progress in life, we get fair doses of good and bad times alike. Especially with the Covid-19 pandemic, people’s mental health is something that has been pushed into the limelight. People have started focusing on their health and self care. As per a 2022 report for ASDMarketweek by Macala Wright it was said that one-third of consumers have increased their self-care behavior during the past year.

There are many different routes that people take for self care. Meditation, exercise, pamper products, books etc. are some of the most widely acknowledged means of self care for the betterment and improvement of oneself. But one unlikely method that is now gaining enormous popularity is not something one does or applies or eats. It’s an auditory escape.

Podcasts are audio media through which ideas, stories, lessons, books and much more can be shared and heard by people. Podcasts have been around for a while now, but have gained enormous popularity in recent times, majorly because many new platforms have come into focus that offer free of cost access to share, stream and listen to these podcasts.

Podcasts are a great way to learn new information, or gather newer insights and also a form of entertainment. They can be heard while working or commuting or while lying in bed, which makes podcasts a very effortless medium to gain knowledge.?

In recent times, podcasts have also become a medium to find community, especially when dealing with mental health issues. When work deadlines start piling up and it feels like years since you’ve had a holiday, your mind can become increasingly frazzled. It’s important to slow down, take a deep breath and unplug from the demands of life and tune into a calming and reassuring podcast to take the load off your mind and just relax for a while.?

Podcasts give us a sense of being a part of a community. It helps to listen to someone else's story about themselves, creating a feeling that you aren't alone. Also, podcasts can feel truer to the experience of being heard because it uses listening, a core idea of therapy.

From mindfulness to interesting TED talks, there’s a wealth of podcasts to try that will calm you down and help you feel inspired. Tune into the ones of your interest and just let the auditory experience take you on an intellectual journey!
