We recently had the pleasure of recording a podcast with Hunter Strategy, diving into a critical topic: secure mobile application development for military use. If you missed it, here’s a sneak peek of our shared insights.
With cyber threats on the rise, the need for secure mobile applications in government contexts has never been more crucial.?
Secure mobile solutions streamline operations, save valuable time and costs, protect vital information, and provide real-time data for swift decision-making. Yet, despite their potential to enhance defense initiatives, military operations often proceed without these essential tools. Why? Developers frequently grapple with the complexities of meeting stringent security requirements. Plus, contractors may not be aware of the solutions available or struggle to obtain them quickly enough to meet mission demands.
A significant consideration for deploying mobile apps in defense environments is the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Validation. NIAP ensures that applications adhere to the necessary security standards for sensitive military operations. However, navigating the NIAP Validation process can feel overwhelming for many developers. The intricate procedures can consume valuable time and resources, especially without proper guidance. At Monkton, we've been through this process ourselves and have valuable insights to share that can help simplify it for others.
Our experience with the NIAP Validation underscored the importance of a proactive approach to security. By embedding security measures from the outset of app development, we ensure compliance from the ground up. This philosophy is at the heart of our “security by design” approach, where we weave robust security measures into every facet of our solutions. Utilizing secure architectures, such as Function as a Service (FaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS), allows us to create applications that are easier to develop and manage while remaining resilient against emerging threats.?
But Monkton’s dedication to security extends beyond app development. We recognize the importance of security education for contractors to get secure mobile solutions into the hands of warfighters. One way we alleviate the pressure for contractors and accelerate solution delivery is through our Phase III SBIR. This IDIQ contract, named MATTER (“Mobile Apps to the Tactical Edge Ready”) enables us to expedite the delivery of secure solutions to our clients, ensuring they have access to technology at mission speed.
