The Podcast - Reinvented?

Just when you thought everything that could be done with the podcast format had been done with the podcast format, along comes a reinvention. And one that’s taking off for both fans and guests alike.

Welcome to ‘Can You Beat…’ an interactive live video show from Moar. The format is pretty simple: each week a celebrity or person of note joins in live to discuss all aspects of their career, with the chat being peppered with trivia questions about said career. Not only does the guest answer these questions, but the watching audience also plays along live, and if they end up with more points than the guest they receive Moola, the platform’s in-house currency.

Recent episodes have seen bestselling author Otto English quizzed about his new book, Alan Barinholz spilling behind-the-scenes secrets from his starring role on the Emmy-nominated ‘Jury Duty’, and The Fabulous Lounge Swingers, stars of Hannah Waddingham’s Apple TV Christmas special.?

‘Guests love it not only because of the fun interactivity of the format’, says Moar chief Tim Edwards, ‘but because of the depth of research we do into their careers and the questions we ask. It’s very different for them from the run-of-the-mill promotional interview circuit. Think of it as the quiz/interview version of Top Gear’s Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.’

Moar community manager Joe Shoubridge agrees. ‘Our players love not only playing against the celebrities in real time, but having the kind of access to them they can’t get anywhere else. They can ask a question live in chat and we can ask it instantly to the guest.’

Recent guest player Alan Barinholz, who gained an admirably top 30 place in his episode, concurs:?

‘What I enjoyed about Can You Beat was the entire experience. The back and forth between the audience and myself was genuinely terrific. You gotta do this !’

Can You Beat will continue in the New Year on Moar, along with new shows including a weekly chat round-up based on the new BBC series of Traitors, a golf-based accuracy format and ‘Is It Ick?’, in which pressing issues of the zeitgeist are discussed by the audience.
