Podcast: The Journey from Agile to Enterprise Agility in the AI era

We all now understand that the need for Enterprise Agility in today’s business landscape cannot be overstated. Agile ways of working, while proven in software and product development, are often inadequate when it comes to the complexity of entire organizations facing rapid, unpredictable change and exponential markets. The acceleration we’re experiencing in the markets and the disruptive power of AI require a holistic, adaptable approach. Today, we are introducing this new podcast series about Enterprise Agility's core parts and how to connect these parts with your existing ideas.
At its core, Enterprise Agility is about creating organizations that are always ready, always responsive and always innovating. These three universal outcomes, as we call them in Enterprise Agility, are critical to success in today’s business environment. They go beyond the scope of traditional agile practices and encompass every aspect of an organization, from strategy to culture.
One of the key concepts of Enterprise Agility that I find particularly relevant to this transition is the TriValue Company model (TVC). This model emphasizes the importance of balancing three core values: Value for the Customer, Value for the Company and Value for the Wellbeing of the Workforce. This balanced approach becomes even more important in the context of AI and accelerated change.
Consider how AI is reshaping customer expectations and market dynamics. Companies need to be able to adapt their products and services quickly (customer value) while ensuring their own sustainability and growth (company value). At the same time, they need to support their employees through these changes and help them to adapt to AI technologies and thrive (Workforce Wellbeing Value). The TVC model provides a framework to manage these complex, often competing demands.
Enterprise Agility also helps with this transition by focusing on Mental agility. In my experience, the ability to quickly adapt one's thinking, challenge assumptions, and develop new solutions is what really sets successful companies apart in our AI-driven, fast-changing markets (or what we call Reframing). Traditional agile ways of working don’t explicitly address this cognitive flexibility, but it’s a cornerstone of Enterprise Agility.
So where can an organization begin the journey from Agile to Enterprise Agility? The first step I always recommend is a thorough assessment of the organization's current state. This includes not only an assessment of agile practices but also of the overall organizational structure, culture, and readiness for change.
