This week’s Insider’s Edit brings you our latest interviews and think pieces from the world of AI. First, ChatGPT ‘joined’ us in a podcast to talk about health care, Google ? and jokes. We also caught up with the U.K. Ministry of Defence’s Laurence Lee who explained why AI is necessary in modern warfare. Finally, we bring you a thought-provoking piece from a University of Cambridge researcher.
ChatGPT: What it thinks about Google, health care and Elon Musk calling it ‘scary good’??
In a very unusual podcast, ChatGPT was ‘invited’ to ‘speak’ by Felix Beacher, Informa Tech’s head of healthcare tech. Over a half hour, they had an excellent discussion about medical AI and cracked some jokes. And for the first time, Beacher got slapped down by a guest.??
“At the end I was left with the impression that the current hype surrounding ChatGPT is well deserved,” Beacher concluded. “The AI singularity, where artificial intelligence rapidly surpasses human intelligence, may be closer than I had previously imagined.”?

What people are getting wrong about generative AI?
University of Cambridge researcher Harry Law takes issue with the widespread misunderstanding of ‘generative AI.’ In this personal essay, he questions whether generative AI systems are even a form of artificial intelligence. “AI is, after all, not the same discipline as machine learning ? a field of statistical inquiry focused on building systems that 'learn’,” he argued.??
“An example of machine learning, generative ‘AI’ is neither artificial nor intelligent. Generative AI systems are trained on vast corpuses of data created by humans, and, despite objections to the contrary, will require human input for widespread adoption,” Law wrote.?
