How often does one need to renew ?

Once every 3 years


Why does one need to renew anyway ?

PMI wants all certificate holders to continuously learn new skills, network with other professionals and volunteer

My PMP renewal is due next week, should I PANIC ?

Though it is not advisable to wait for the last minute, however if your renewal is due / past due, don't worry. PMI allows a 1 year extension on the renewal date. During this period, the credentials are "Suspended", however as soon as you collect 60 PDUs, you can renew and save the certification. Checkout this video for more info https://youtu.be/ZAhlQpLYakI

What does one need for renewal ?

Renewal is a 2 step process.

Step 1 : Collect 60 PDUs

Step 2 : Pay Renewal Fee on PMI portal


What are PDUs ?

PDUs = Professional Development Units.

1 Hour spent in learning, teaching others, or volunteering = 1 PDU

PDUs are further divided into 2 categories.

Education PDUs can be earned by attending seminars, webinars, reading relevant books, self paced learning etc. They can be earned in 3 Knowledge areas, mentioned below

Giving Back PDUs is for time spent volunteering, mentoring etc.
