PMP Prep Made Fun: The Power of Planning

In the previous Newsletter we looked at the power of connection when you embark on the journey of getting your PMP certification.
Today we will talk about the next step: planning.
Do you like binge watching your favorite shows? Are you the type of person who is super intelligent with an impeccable memory, who can prepare for important meetings and finish multiple-page reports by staying up all night? Finally, would you call yourself a sprinter? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then we need to talk!
Personally, I am a sprinter, and I prefer to attack tasks with the same mentality. But running fast and hard does not fly with PMP prep. Everything about the PMP certification is a long marathon. I would even call it a lifestyle. Your approach should be well-planned, well-structured, thought through and paced. Give yourself plenty of time. Get all your ducks in a row before you apply and start preparing before your application is even accepted, so that when it is, you are already on your way to success.
Practical Advice:
- When preparing for the PMP examination, think of it as a long consistent marathon, not a sprint.
- Are you a Project Manager? Well…now is a great time to apply your PM skills to yourself. Look at your schedule. Can you set aside an hour to study every day? What about every other day? Are there any vacations you have planned that will distract from your prep time? Any family or work responsibilities that you should take into account? Think about your time. Your time is valuable. Respect it. Manage it.
- Time is important, but so is money. What is your budget? If you have more money than time, consider attending one of the PMP prep boot camps – expensive, but fast and intense.
