PMBOK 8th Edition Draft Review From ZYH

PMBOK 8th Edition Draft Review From ZYH

This is my review of the PMBOK 8th Edition Draft Version from PMI. Please note that there may be changes when the final version is officially released. (P.S.: This review reflects only my personal opinion.)

The 8th Edition appears to be an improvement over the 6th and 7th Editions, incorporating feedback and lessons learned from past versions.

In the "The Standard for Project Management" section, we can observe a combination of the 6th and 7th Editions, blending the value-driven approach from the 7th with the process-driven methodology of the 6th.

For me, the most interesting part is that it incorporates product management concepts and roles as an integral part of project management.

In the "The Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge" section, we can observe some of the most exciting changes.

The Knowledge Areas from the 6th Edition have been redefined as Performance Domains (PD), such as:

1. Governance PD (This seems to have evolved from the Integration Knowledge Area. Personally, I find this name more appropriate.)

2. Scope PD

3. Schedule PD

4. Finance PD (Previously known as the Cost Management Knowledge Area.)

5. Stakeholders PD

6. Resources PD

7. Risk PD

Another significant change in the 8th Edition is the return of ITTO (Inputs, Tools, Techniques, and Outputs) from the 6th Edition, replacing the "Models, Methods, Artifacts" structure introduced in the 7th Edition. In the 8th Edition, ITTO is divided into two separate sub-sectors: "Inputs/Outputs" and "Tools & Techniques."

In the "Tools & Techniques" section, the following are included:

1. PMO

2. AI (This was expected, as implementing AI in project management has become essential.)

3. Procurement (I am unsure about this inclusion, as procurement could also be part of a Performance Domain. However, this section might focus more on the specific tools and techniques related to procurement.)

That's my review. As always, we can expect to gain valuable knowledge and concepts from the new version, and I can't wait to see the final release!
