Canada Today?- This world needs Good News. It is for sure it needs, and CANADA TODAY NEWS speaks, here on LinkedIn, this phrase for a few years now - since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. We know there wasn't a country or a person on this planet who wouldn't suffer because of this health-related global challenge. However, because Canadians stood together, our country overcame it better than other world governments. And when the wins happened in health, social, economic, and climate aspects, we used to highlight them with the phrase - ''Here We Share Good News''.?
Today, we reflect on a political Canada-home event, on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau 's and his Cabinet Ministers' retreat in Hamilton, Ontario, on January 23 - 25, 2023, dedicated to making progress on priorities that matter for Canadians and on the news conference that concluded that work.
'' Next week, we’ll be back in Parliament and continuing our work for you and for Canadians across the country. But before we get there, our Cabinet is meeting in Hamilton. Here’s why:''
Last week, Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau , announced his Cabinet retreat from January 23 to 25, 2023, in Hamilton, Ontario, to make progress on priorities that matter to Canadians. At this time of the year, the Federal Liberal Government Ministers, as a rule, are using it as an opportunity to meet together and create a working plan that will guide them for the upcoming months and the year ahead.?
We all experience and acknowledge - The Covid 19 pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine hard impact the economy and make life more expensive;
While our government works to fight climate change and build a clean economy based on clean tech innovations, it also continues its focus and efforts on making life more affordable and building an economy that works for all Canadians.
The Federal Liberal Government Team acknowledges that the world and our country are moving through not-easy challenging times when it is crucial to support each other and ''really lean in'' on issues that matter most for Canadians. That is why Prime Minister?Justin Trudeau?and his Cabinet of 38 Ministers held meetings to discuss legislation, responsible questions, and priorities of life affordability, housing, health, climate change, and other critical aspects of the economy.?
On the second day of the Cabinet retreat on January 24, 2023, in Hamilton, Ontario, The Prime Minister held a working meeting with the Mayor of Hamilton, Andrea Horwath, to discuss their shared priorities on delivering results for Canadians in Hamilton and across Canada.
On January 25,?Justin Trudeau?and his Cabinet of Ministers concluded their federal retreat, and at the news conference, The Prime Minister announced the upcoming meeting with the premiers in two weeks on February 7th, in Ottawa, where they will work together to strengthen Canada's healthcare system and discuss healthcare funding. - "It will be a good moment for us to gather, but we're not going to be signing deals on that particular moment." - said The Prime Minister.
But let's go over the Prime Minister's message delivered while of the news conference;
On Wednesday, January 25, in Hamilton, ON., at the news conference, which took place at McMaster, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau , in the salutation part, thanked McMaster for hosting their Federal Cabinet for the two days.
Afterwards, he reflected on his government's responsible leadership and the work accomplishments successfully performed by the Federal Liberal Government team during the last Fall 2022 session. Justin Trudeau also took a moment to underline his government's commitment to continue their work on making life more affordable, strengthening health care, and building an economy that works for all Canadians.
''Over the past two days, the Cabinet in very good discussions about a range of issues facing Canadians. One of the top issues was the struggles families continue to face with global inflation, which is raising the costs of basic things like groceries. '' - said The Prime Minister.
Here, we would like to underline that there are uncertain and challenging times for the economy. Therefore, the Liberal Federal Government continues to deliver support to Canadian families through Canada's child benefit, which goes up with the cost of inflation.
Our government supports low-income workers through Canada's workers' benefits and also provides the support our seniors across the country need. The support for seniors includes boosting the Old Age Security pension and improving the Guaranteed Income Supplement. - ''Canada pension plan benefits and the guaranteed income supplement for seniors a 10 top up for OAS to seniors 75 and older.''
''This is keeping our economy - The most recent report shows that our jobs recovery from the pandemic demonstrates sustained strength.''
While our Government of Canada provides support and works hard on making life more affordable and building a resilient economy that works for all Canadians, it also acknowledges that the development and creation of more good jobs for the middle class through ''clean economy and green environmental'' projects started in 2022 are the best way to ensure that Canadians have a good quality of life.
There we have a great example of a clean economy project - the Arcelor Mittal Dofasco - a steel plant, a leader in green steel production, which is partnering with the Federal and Ontario Governments to reduce carbon emissions at its plant. Dofasco is the first in the world plant to move to the clean steel process - This clean-steel Hamilton plant today provides careers to the second and third generations of workers.
''We've helped secure jobs for the next Generations of Steel Workers by investing in projects like defasco's decarbonization facility right here in Hamilton.'' - underlined Justin Trudeau .
And while speaking of the responsible leadership and commitment to building an economy that works for all Canadians, at this pandemic recovery time, The Prime Minister highlighted that '' Unemployment is at historic lows, and we have record high labour force participation including record high participation of women in the economy. All of this is keeping our economy and the middle class strong and empowering more people than ever, but we know there's still more work to do to ensure that everyone is benefiting.''?
''We've done a lot to deliver for Canadians over the past few months, and we're not going to slow down because we know there are still a lot of big issues to tackle;''
We know the world is moving toward clean technologies. A week ago, The Prime Minister visited to highlight one more of Canada's significant ''clean economy'' projects - which aims to strengthen global electric vehicle supply chains with Canadian resources. On January 16, 2023, Prime Minister,?Justin Trudeau, made a work tour in Saskatchewan, where he met and spoke with skilled workers of the facility of Vital Metals in Saskatoon. The workers of this plant and Canadian businesses today attract historic investments in the electric vehicle supply chain.
''We're also investing to create new opportunities for resource workers across the country like the workers I met in Saskatoon last week were mining the critical minerals and Rare Earth elements used to make the batteries our computers and smartphones and electric vehicles rely on, '' - pointed out?Justin Trudeau.
Commitment to making life more affordable for people across the country includes delivery of affordable $10-a-day childcare;?
Our government started an affordable $10-a-day childcare project in the summer of 2021st. Today, this social development and the economic project make a huge positive difference for Canadian families across Canada - it is delivered everywhere across the country, and it helps moms and dads fully participate in the economy and build the careers they want.
Last year, Liberal Federal Government worked with provinces and territories to reduce fees by 50 percent for families with license with children in licensed daycares. As a result of this work, today, Canadian families are saving thousands of dollars every year, highlighted Prime Minister.
At the end of the 2022 year, the Government of Canada reported that affordable $ 10-a-day child care for Canadian kids across the country is on the way to successful implementation. An example of that is a reduction of childcare fees for families in Nova Scotia by an average of 50 percent, so families with kids can save more money in their pockets and spend less.
?Our government promised to get fees down to $10 a day by March 2024 in Nunavut; however, it delivered this goal in December 2022. Now, parents in Nunavut save about $55 per day and per child. Indeed, when today the price of so many other things is going up, this positive change ''gives them the breathing room they need to be able to support their family'', pointed out Justin Trudeau .
''We've done a lot to deliver for Canadians over the past few months, and we know there's still a lot of big issues to tackle.''
And one of the critical issues our government plans to tackle, which today is on the minds of so many - is the Canadian healthcare system. ''Canadians expect and deserve the best care possible.'' It is significant Canadians ''can access the services they need, when and where they need them.''
And to solve this issue, Prime Minister,?Justin Trudeau, has invited 13 premiers of Canada's provincial and territorial governments to meet on February 7 in Ottawa to work together on strengthening our healthcare system and discuss reaching cross-Canada healthcare funding deals. However, The Prime Minister pointed out that Canadians shouldn't expect the deal will be signed on February 7th.
"It will be an opportunity to share with them our plans to support the healthcare systems across the country, hear their priorities for investment, and start working together concretely to ensure that we're transparent about how this money is being invested," - it is crucial ''Canadians can have the confidence that they'll get the high-quality health care they deserve, for years to come," - highlighted?Justin Trudeau.
''Our Universal system has long been a model to the world, and Canadians are rightly taking enormous pride in it, but ''
Canada's healthcare system had experienced some critical issues years before COVID-19, and when the pandemic happened, it unveiled all the issues which now we need to solve: ''Too many people don't have access to a family doctor or a nurse practitioner, wait times in emergency rooms across the country - particularly in rural areas have become dangerously long. Healthcare workers themselves are under incredible strain as they've stepped up over these past two years. So many of them are on the verge of burnout,'' - underlined?Justin Trudeau.
?At the news conference, The Prime Minister announced his decision to meet and work together with Premiers in the upcoming two weeks because the working meeting is an opportunity to share the federal plans to support the healthcare systems across the country and hear about provincial and territorial governments' needs in healthcare from premiers.
Now, numerous Canadian media speak that there is an expectation of discussing an agreement - or series of agreements, which will lead to enhancing our healthcare system through increased funding for healthcare across the country. While reflecting on the funding question,?Justin Trudeau?said the following: ''Now let's be clear, providing money is certainly part of the solution, and we will do that, but funding alone won't solve the issues. Canadians need to see improvements, better results, and outcomes, including:
* Timely access to family doctors - no matter where they live,
* A strong and sustainable Health Workforce,?
* Access in a timely fashion to better mental health care,?
* And access to digital health information that follows them to any health professional they see.''
And Prime Minister underlined one more critical moment to consider: ''No matter who you are or where you live, you can always Access Health Services based on needs, not on your ability to pay.''
The Federal Government will continue to hard work to strengthen Canada's health care, keep tackling climate change issues, work on addressing income inequality, and grow the middle class.
''Next week, we’ll be back in Parliament and continuing our work for you and Canadians across the country,'' - concluded?Justin Trudeau.
