PM Pro Tips: Hypothesis Validation and Load Testing

I had this fantastic opportunity to attend this webinar by Bohubrihi and curated by the instructor Fahad Ahmed , and the special guest Shadman Rahman . The entire webinar was information packed and highly insightful I will write multiple articles so that I can discuss the ideas thoroughly, also maintaining the concept by the Shadman Rahman that "Do not roll out everything together but roll out in phases"

Hypothesis Validation

One of the major responsibilities of a Product Manager is to validate the hypothesis. Often times, we are not the Target Group of the product, however, we believe that we know what our TG's pain points are without validating it. We should always validate our hypothesis and that can be done in different ways. Let's mention a few of those techniques:

• User Research
• Prototype Testing
• MVP Testing

Apart from these, a PM can do A/B Testing and most importantly, when you are going to launch do not roll out to all the audience.

Load Testing

Load testing is another key role that a PM plays. Bugs are an integrated part of software, 100% bug free softwares are rare specially when you're launching new features. You do no want your users to have a bad experience, at least not all users. Here, load testing comes to play. According to Shadman Rahman , for risk management we should always phase out release to our users and this is how he do it:

• Phase 1: Start rolling out your MVP to 10% audience, observe for 24 hours, most of the time if bug exists you'll figure this out in this phase. After that, execute Phase 2.
• Phase 2: Target 20% audience and observe 24 hours. After that, execute Phase 3.
• Phase 3: Target 50% audience and observe 24 hours. After that, execute Phase 4.
• Phase 4: Last phase where you release all of it.

Most of the time, majority of the bugs are found in the first phase, so you have time to resolve it and 90% does not have to face a terrible experience. After the bugs are fixed we go to Phase 2, similarly Phase 3 and the last phase of the release.
