Plug and Play Portfolio Company Holly Health demonstrates that digital health can drive health outcomes and health efficiencies simultaneously

Holly Health , a digital coaching tool for patients living with, or at risk of, chronic physical and mental health conditions demonstrates how it’s possible to drive improved health and healthcare efficiencies at the same time. New outcomes data shows that after using the service, doctor appointment bookings on average go down.

Founded in 2020, and backed by Plug and Play in 2023, Holly Health has been scaling with NHS partners in the UK, to drive prevention and lifestyle behaviour change support in healthcare. It has partnered with over 200 GP practices, to reach a population coverage of around 2 million people.

The web and mobile app helps patients to build confidence in their self-management abilities and provides the infrastructure to succeed with long-term habit changes. This is achieved through tailored habit recommendations, motivational reminders and nudges from the Holly bird, in-app content and chatbot coaching, and progress tracking. For healthcare partners, Holly Health offers a highly scalable and adaptable tool that can be promoted to all adults. Launching Holly Health requires very little healthcare time (from 30 mins per primary care site), to support hundreds of patients immediately. So far, the service has supported over 35,000 end users and spans a population coverage of 2 million.

• Improvements to mental wellbeing, including reduced anxiety and higher life satisfaction
• Doctor appointments on average reduced after using Holly Health! The average reduction is 1.4 appointments fewer per year across all users, and up to 4 appointments fewer across users with specific conditions, such as people with type 2 diabetes or NAFLD (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease).
