Phi Lambda Sigma
Empowering lifelong leaders in the profession of pharmacy since 1965 ??
Authored by '24-25 PLS Member Engagement Committee Vice-Chairperson and professional member Jocelyn F. , PharmD, MBA
Mentorship is a cornerstone of leadership development, offering a transformative experience for both mentors and mentees. As a pharmacist and a Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) member, I’ve witnessed firsthand how intentional mentorship builds confidence, sharpens leadership skills, and strengthens our professional community. This year, I’m thrilled to share an update on Phi Lambda Sigma’s Society-wide Mentor Program and its exciting new pilot phase.
A New Era of Mentorship in Phi Lambda Sigma
The recently launched Phi Lambda Sigma Mentor Program aims to create a meaningful one-on-one connection between student members and experienced Phi Lambda Sigma graduates. Our purpose is simple yet impactful: to guide emerging pharmacy leaders in their professional journey. This initiative is already off to an inspiring start, with 24 intentionally matched mentor-mentee pairs participating in the program’s pilot phase.
How It Works
The program prioritizes aligning mentors and mentees based on their areas of interest, career goals, and leadership aspirations. Participants commit to meeting at least once per semester (though many opt for more frequent interactions). Whether it's reviewing a CV, discussing residency applications, or navigating challenges in leadership roles, these tailored conversations provide unparalleled support and guidance.
For mentors, it’s an opportunity to give back, sharing their experience to uplift the next generation. For mentees, the program fosters professional growth while opening doors to new possibilities.
Early Impact and Future Goals
Feedback from the pilot cohort has been overwhelmingly positive. Mentees have highlighted the invaluable advice they've received, while mentors enjoy the chance to shape the future of pharmacy. The program’s optional monthly group meetings also provide a platform for collaborative learning, with topics ranging from leadership development to career planning.
As we move toward full implementation in Spring 2025, the Member Engagement Committee is working diligently to expand this initiative. We aim to cultivate a thriving mentorship culture across all PLS chapters, ensuring every member has the resources to grow as a leader.

Why Mentorship Matters
Mentorship is more than guidance—it’s a mutual learning experience that enhances personal and professional growth. At its core, it reflects the values of Phi Lambda Sigma: empowering leaders to inspire others and leave a lasting impact on the pharmacy profession.
I invite every Phi Lambda Sigma member to consider participating in this initiative. Whether as a mentor or mentee, your involvement will not only enrich your career but also contribute to the legacy of leadership in pharmacy.
