Plot Twist: Strategy first, or suck it and see?

It's been a minute?

What's your default mode?

Strategize and plan everything down to what kind of tea bags you have in for important visitors?

Or wing it and see what happens in the moment?

At risk of giving a beige opinion, for me -?it's both.

Here's how I divide up what needs a strategy, and what you can take a suck it and see approach to.

Needs strategy and planning

?? The foundations of your brand including:

?? The value you add - your USEFUL selling points

?? Your core beliefs which lead to:

?? What you will and won't talk about or comment on

?? The rough direction of the business

Suck it and see

?? Your pricing strategy - reflect how people spend and buy

?? The detail of your market positioning and how it changes seasonally, culturally and the res?? Your audiences,?tone of voice and way you engage

?? Your messaging - and what I call situational relevance (ask me about that)

That might feel like a risk...

But the logic here is that you can't predict the future.

Your brand doesn't exist in a vacuum.

It operates in the messiness of everyday life.

And that changes rapidly, which means rather than setting a strategy and pig-headedly sticking to it, you need to figure a lot of it out as you go along.

What would you rather?

An macro-detail strategy that leaves no question unanswered today?

Or

The agility to adapt to changes, opportunities and trends so that you're part of relevant conversations?

My question to you...

Which parts of your strategy are too static and need a little more leeway?

Where are you missing opportunities to be relevant and engaging because your strategy dictates a pre-defined approach?

If you need a hand figuring out where you can ease up and where you need teenage-level boundaries, let's talk.

Until I see you out there,

Catherine.
