PLOGGING!

PLOGGING - The latest Craze to Sweep the Nation

Apparently, 'Plogging' is the 'in' thing to be doing if you're young, in to jogging, live near the coast and dislike the amount of plastic waste left on our beaches (isn't that most of us)? That plastic waste inevitably makes its way in to our seas and oceans and kills much of our wonderful marine wildlife.

Although I too detest to see the amount of litter on our beaches or can't bare to think about the needless injury and death caused to marine animals and fish alike by our inability to do the most simple of things and take our litter and plastic home with us I can't help thinking that the creators of this new trend have missed a trick.

Surely the word that would most suit this activity (which I will remind you is a combination of picking up litter whilst out jogging) should be 'Pigging' ie. picking and jogging and seen as though it is always done outside maybe 'Pigging Out' would be even more fitting.

Crazy how modern-day activities/trends that do so much good for our coastal environment could be so misconstrued by the wrong choice of a couple of words. Probably a good thing that the word 'Plogging' has been coined after all.
