The PLM Manager’s Handbook
The focal point of PLM is the PLM Manager in the user company; or by extension, the collective PLM Team who embody the PLM aims and expertise of the enterprise.
The PLM Manager (or Team) is always looking for a source of greater knowledge to tap into – the sort of advice that might be given by an experienced mentor, if one were available.
If the PLM Manager’s knowledge and skills could be captured and codified, everyone would benefit.? Well now they have been.
The PLM Manager's Handbook is the result of 20 years of workshops and initiatives by the PLMIG in Europe and North America, investigating and codifying the most difficult tasks in PLM.? It is not an encyclopaedia or training course, because to cover the whole scope of PLM would need thousands of pages and would be completely unusable.
Instead it distils all of the fundamental principles and methodologies of PLM into a single 138-page document.? It sets out a comprehensive framework of tools and information that leads from the first decision to try to understand PLM, through to managing a fully-working implementation, and then beyond into the realms of advanced PLM.
It is the first textbook that you should reach for if you are thrown into the role of PLM Manager with no guidance, but its value extends far beyond this.? Experienced PLM Teams can use it to elevate their implementations towards excellence; and vendors, advisors and service providers can use it to understand and live the viewpoint of the people they aim to serve.
As with all PLMIG tools, the Handbook contains an email address for questions and feedback.? As the Handbook is used it may become a natural focal point: a kernel, a magnetic pole, a grain of sand in the oyster, that attracts knowledge and snags it so that it doesn’t drift off; and then attracts more and more knowledge as it increases in size and appeal.
