Failure to deliver services to the people does not only amount to dereliction of duty, but it is also in contravention of the Constitution of the country.
In essence, service delivery refers to the distribution of basic services such as safe water supply, electricity, health services, roads, street lighting, traffic controls, refuse collection, sewage disposal and maintenance, as well as municipal parks and recreation.?Change is the law of life! However, democratic change in South Africa brought nothing but misery in the lives of Black South Africans specifically for African descent and Khoi/ Cape Malay. The world governments are changing rapidly in how it governs and deliver for its citizens. Yet, those who look only to the past or present , and are certain to miss the future. The opinion presents information related to key drivers, restraints, opportunities and challenges in Freight transport.
Effective and reliable service delivery is one of the biggest challenges South Africa faces.?This is largely due to the municipalities across the country not having the required resources to fulfil the delivery of basic services to communities within which they operate. By lacking in resources, it derails economic development and growth opportunities in poor communities and the country at large. Part of advancing the environment is for government to deliver services efficiently and well. Poor delivery of services drains growth and bleeds competitiveness.
South Africa does not have enough qualified and experienced public servants (if they are available, they are contaminated) that are necessary to turn government plans, particularly at local government level, into action. The skilled professionals that we have often end up in the more prestigious positions in central government and attracted to the large corporates, private sector business, metros, while smaller municipalities are without the requisite talent needed.
The extremely complex structure of government makes it hard to fix problems, because getting one department or municipality to work well may have limited impact on the bigger picture. The structure of government also complicates accountability, with service delivery responsibilities split between government at local, provincial and national levels. With so many levels in charge of delivery, the lines of authority are often blurry and perplexing.
Yet, the demand for on-time delivery has been increasing mainly in the logistics industry, which has become a vital factor among its competitors. Introduction of several innovations in freight transportation for effective management of the transportation process has helped in the development of the market. Transportation management accounts for one-third of the logistics cost, which highly influences the performance of the entire market, thereby fueling the growth of the B2B freight transportation market and the economy at large.
#ANCGovernment: President Cyril Ramaphosa believes ordinary South Africans has confidence in his government and things were actually looking “pretty good” for South Africa. Whereas, the President and his cabinet are long self buried six feet under with their heads in the sand.
Not long ago, the country?descended?into mass unrest, looting, arson and violence that destroyed thousands of businesses and led to 212 deaths. It is not the first time South Africa experiences such upheaval and one has to wonder when is the next wave of unrest going to start, as we are seating on a time boom. Porous boarders, corruption, crime and chaos is an issue which we must confront head on regardless of being labelled xenophobic. People who speak about xenophobia are not having this nonsense in their countries and we should not be afraid to talk about it.
South Africa is Africa’s most industrialized nation and leading democracy. Its development as a liberal democracy, after decades of white supremacist rule, has impressed many in the West. The West continues to benefit out of our chaos and they would prefer people like Ramaphosa at the helm. Of which, only an efficient and effective government can provide the framework in which peoples can fulfill their needs and create sustainable environment for job creation. But governments don’t create jobs by creating jobs; they create jobs by advancing the right environment.
#CorporateSouthAfrica (Economic Hit Man) : South Africa has seen many?corporate failures?due to poor?corporate?governance. Private companies are a contributory factor to all the upheaval happening in RSA. They continue to have exceptionalism, Board member and dine ANC Government, even if this comes at a cost. It allowed the ruling (ANC) party the liberty to indulge in profound denialism and fashion a narrative of steady progress, even as corruption, chaos, crime and corporate governance failures engulfed its ranks and its governments continued to fail on delivering basic services to townships inhabited by mainly poor Black South Africans. They also employ illegal foreigners and pay no attention to detail i.e. the private sector would have procured Medupi and Kusile as fixed-price, turnkey projects and they would have been delivered on time, on budget, and they would have worked properly. South Africa is being destroyed so that corrupt big business can profit and mass media, all the major political parties conspire to hide the role big business play in corruption. The big auditing companies are also very busy improving the ways to hide corruption and issue clean audits.
Why cant they draw a line and hold the government at ransom to push national revamp, enforcement of all laws which will strengthen the rule of law. The burning of trucks (Road Freight) on the N3, which is the jagular vein to the economy of South Africa. The sleeping on the job intelligence and police is a clear indication that we going down the black hole. South Africa's 2 280 railway network is?in a coma, in a public health facility managed by plumbers, with no specialized doctors onboard. The decrease in freight transported by train over the past five years was a a result of governance. The country's rail network carried nearly 230 million tons of freight in 2017 and only 179 million in 2021, the lowest volume recorded over the past decade.
In the current economic situation, rail freight is reconstructed which itself shows the advantages of rail freight. The safety of railway freight is good, compared with road traffic, which is conducive to doing a good job in safety production work with strict assessment. Railway freight also has the advantages of long distance, not affected by weather, low price, etc. Freight transportation offers a cost-effective management system, which helps local and small players to compete at the global arena. Industrial players and government agencies use their terms for fuel management, route planning, vendor management, freight optimization, and order management for the system within the freight transport management, which is expected to enhance operations over the forecast period.
The chaos of South Africa is self made by lack of decisive leadership both in government & private sector. Thus such scenes are increasing and are a daily occurrence. The frustrations and indignities that drove young and middle-aged South Africans to loot and engage in destructive behaviour over past two years will resurface soon. With little done to assess and rectify the economic and social challenges behind xenophobic violence, looting, crime, corruption and chaos or to enhance the security services’ preparedness to handle it, South Africa will have a retake of a much more major destructive behaviour.

The ANC’s policies have not really dismantled the oppressive economic structures of apartheid and as a result, people are losing faith in democracy. On the flip side private industry is employing poor tactics which are seat and wait. Surely, the children of the future will want to know " what happened" and all of us will have to stand up and account.
Solutions to our problems are readily available, we lack "concomitant action", enforcement, we lack commitment to the country and are very afraid of international governments who send ex-prisoners, criminals and may undocumented people here. We are our own worse enemies and we dislike order.

1 年Wave Drivers: Systematic value add drivers who operate in a chain driving method. Such drivers must drive trucks in their respective countries to kill the fire of hatred and job stealing. This is a win-win scenario for now since we cannot control our borders. For example a South African driver will drive a truck to Zim border Messina, hand over to a Zim driver, who will drive the truck to the Chirundu?border and hand over to A Zambian to further take the goods to border of DRC Kasumbalesa. 1 年Reschedule the schedule of road freight in SADC: South African companies must forget about cutting cost in drivers employment, there wont be any cost saving for them as long our borders remain un-managed. The advise I offer freight companies is to employ the current foreign drivers in their own countries but paid from South Africa (Wave Drivers).

1 年Freight or Shipping scheduling: is?a way to plan out your business' shipments and deliveries in advance based on your supply chain and customer demand. It is a common practice for large and small businesses to improve efficiency and give your partners and customers peace of mind. With a dispute between locals and foreignern truck drivers from neighbouring countries of SADC i.e. Mozambique, DRC, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi and Zambia, constructive thinking needs to be employed to reschedule the schedule of road freight.

1 年Although a touch late, in our intelligence services, private security I find value in debriefing and reflecting on the year that was 2023, and planning and setting the focus for 2024 - 2030 in securing freight. However, absolute a year with many wins and lessons accompanying the inevitable failures is paramount if there are adequate controls and the intent of correcting everything from the root cause. The reactive short cuts our government and private industry are doing in addressing the torching of trucks, is not going to work and it might gain momentum if not nipped on the bud. The root cause is not addressed, which is fueled by porous borders, companies employing illegal immigrants to cut cost/lower overheads, governance and corruption. Until these are addressed, the trucks will continue to burn.
