Pleasure in a Cup: Lavazza and the Robot Luigi - a Reminder of What Makes Us Human

For Italians, coffee is much more than just a drink; it’s a tradition, a ritual, a taste that sets the rhythm of our days and an occasion that refreshes, energises, and often brings us together.

The new Lavazza commercial reflects this, introducing the robot Luigi alongside the Hollywood duo Steve Carell and John Krasinski. The ad was produced by Movie Magic International and directed by Dorian & Daniel, who the production company has signed an exclusive agreement with.?

The commercial visually translates the positioning of a brand that is becoming increasingly global. It celebrates the joy of human experiences, comprised of small but profoundly meaningful moments of pleasure, like savouring a good coffee.

The ad sees the robot Luigi serving coffee to office workers every day and watching their reactions of delight with fascination. Every coffee seems to extend time, giving each drinker a chance to close their eyes and evoke dreams and imagination.?A dream almost brings Luigi to life and wraps up the narrative by focusing on what truly makes us human.

Lavazza’s ad “Pleasure Makes Us Human” is the latest masterpiece in the success story of the German director duo Dorian & Daniel, who met during an advertising direction course at the Filmakademie Baden Württemberg in 2012. Brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Tiger Beer and Tipico have since chosen to work with them.?

The pair blend two minds and four eyes that tell stories visually, using powerful imagery to entertain and provoke thought.

Among their works, "Rear Window" for Samsung and “Dear Brother" for Johnny Walker -Spot, which alone has received over 20 million views on YouTube, Vimeo, and other video channels, have gained international attention and won them numerous creative awards.

They’ve filmed several campaigns in Italy exclusively with Movie Magic, including the original and cinematic “The Screenplay,” created by Leo Burnett for Jeep in 2021.
