Review your profile!!! Oh Really?

Dear LinkedIn users,

Please see the screenshot of a post from LinkedIn. This is a post for openings with DANATA / EMIRATES AIRLINES with incomplete information.

The person who posted the ad has following Professional Headline, "Recruiter (looking for a job in UAE)".

There are 1083 Likes and 852 comments on this post. I have randomly viewed the comments. Surprisingly, while this person himself is looking for a job, the 852 comments are predominantly saying "Interested" or asking to review their profile.

Ladies & Gentlemen, please pay attention to the post and understand it before making a comment or liking the post.

In case if this was a genuine post, it would have some instructions on how to apply for the position or at least an email ID to submit the application to.

Even to a genuine vacancy advertisement, a mere comment like "Interested" or "Review my profile" only shows a casual interest in the position. Want to be considered for a vacancy, do your bit, show some urge. Since LinkedIn is global and has members from all over the world, before responding please also pay a little attention to the possibility of getting a work visa for your nationality in the country position is advertised for, or is the position advertised for a country which hires expatriates.

To check how genuine is the advertisement, I suggest to run a quick checklist and look for the following.

  • Is the advertisement posted by the employer? A proper organisation would include the career website address or a relevant mail ID. Here also look for the email address with the company's domain, not the free email.
  • Is the advertisement posted by a recruitment consultant? Website address or mail ID would be included.
  • Anything else asking to comment as "Interested" or "Yes" etc is simply a scam. Avoid it. Have some spare time? Report it to LinkedIn.

The question is what could be the reason for someone to post a fake advertisement? I can only think of one. It is likely when this advertiser sends a request to connect, the "Interested" party would not be reluctant to accept and thus helping the fake recruiters to increase the number of people in their network for a future unsolicited use for Phishing or Spamming.

Anyone Interested? Please review my profile. :)
