We hear a lot of talk these days about the right to free movement of people, and it is true that you cannot really have free trade without it, but actually it does not exist anywhere. You do have the right to live in a country of which you are a citizen, but, unless your citizenship comes not only from your place of birth but also from one of your parents, the minister of the interior can always revoke it. When we live in a country of which we are not citizens, we enjoy not a right but a privilege, and, as guests, we should be scrupulously well-behaved in return.
